Home Staging: Making A Good First Impression

If you’re thinking about selling your home, try not to get overwhelmed thinking about all of the small things you’ll need to spruce up, fix, or re-arrange. Completing even a basic staging of your home can go a long way in helping to attract potential buyers.

The old saying is true; first impressions are everything. The goal is to have pristine photos that will showcase your home, thus helping to drive potential buyers to open houses or book a private viewing. If you consider how we shop for ourselves, we are typically more attracted to advertisements with really great photos in them, versus the ones with the so-so pictures. It can be the same in the real estate market.

Deep-Clean

Keeping your home clean and tidy during the selling process can seem never ending but it is well worth the extra work. If you can, consider hiring a professional cleaning company or individual who will make the place look spotless and help ease the added stress of constant housework.

Rearrange and De-Clutter

By rearranging existing furniture pieces, this will allow you to create new living spaces, and possibly even repurpose different areas in the home. It also gives sellers the opportunity to think about what pieces to get rid of to free up space. Hanging mirrors or allowing natural light into the home can make it appear larger and add brightness. If you are moving before you sell, renting furniture is an option to ensure you aren’t showcasing an empty home. Another option is to outsource and get in touch with a professional such as Tamara from Destined Dreams Home Staging.

Neutral Colours

That wall you painted a bold colour when you moved in may be in your taste, but could deter potential buyers from the home. Keep your colour palette neutral; beige and tan shades for walls and white for ceilings are the best choices. Adding a new coat of paint to rooms that haven’t been touched up in awhile can also help to freshen up. If you need help with choosing the perfect neutral colours, contact my trusted Interior Design Consultant, Lorrie Allen, from LA Finishes.

Add Curb Appeal

Focusing on the outside of your home is important, because as mentioned previously, first impressions are everything. The first thing a potential buyer will see when they arrive is the exterior. So why not help make the outside stand out by having a neatly trimmed lawn, adding flowers to the garden for a pop of colour, cleaning the windows, or even freshening up old paint.

By choosing not to stage your home, you could be losing out on potential buyers. It’s a numbers game; staging essentially gets people through the door, and in turn, possibly an offer to buy your home.
