Spring Market: Sprucing Up The Interior Of Your Home

If you checked out my last blog, I shared tips on boosting curb appeal to help get your home ready for the spring market. If you followed my tips, the exterior of your home should be looking great and you’re ready to get started on sprucing up the interior of your home.

It’s a great time of year to clean, purge, and finish projects so that your home is in top shape to list. Take your time and go through all rooms of your home, go through items and decide if you want to keep, sell or donate them. This will rid your space of clutter and remind you of items that you might have forgotten about. It’s better to get rid of unwanted items during this process so you have less stuff to move when your home sells. Do it yourself, or hire a professional cleaning company to help you out.

Have you been leaving small projects that need to be done around your home? This is your opportunity to get all of those completed and make potential buyers feel like they can move into your home without having to fix all of the things you’ve left behind. Replace old bulbs and fixtures to add some extra light to the home.

Adding a fresh coat of paint, re-arranging furniture, adding some colour, or replacing old blinds are easy ways to bring some new life into your home. If you need help with interior design, Lorrie from LA Finishes is a great person to get in touch with. She can help you decide on what colours would work best for the home, and can provide overall suggestions on making your home more sellable.

Other ideas are to add some fresh plants & get your carpets and windows cleaned. With the arrival of nicer weather and warmer temperatures, get your windows open and air the place out.

Focusing on the design of your home is a great way to attract potential buyers, but you also need to focus on projects that might not be easily visible at first glance. Have you checked out the wiring and electricity in your home? Call Colin from Hough Electric & set up an inspection; take the stress out of this & leave these types of projects to a trained professional.

A common problem that home owners (new or seasoned) can face is wildlife getting into their home. I’ve heard from some new owners that they moved in and started hearing noises, had a professional company come in to take a look & discovered that they were faced with an infestation of critters such as squirrels, mice or raccoons, etc. As a seller, your new occupants will be very thankful if you’ve been proactive to see if this is an issue within the home, and if so, had it taken care of before listing. Contact Ryan at Halton Wildlife Services to have your home and property assessed and any potential issues dealt with.

As always, I’m available to chat about getting your home ready to sell, buying a new or first home, or anything real estate related. Get in touch – I’d love to help with your home selling adventure!
